If Wellington can play during the upcoming season like it did in Friday night's spring game against Royal Palm Beach, the 2010 season could be one to remember for the Wolverines.
Wellington dominated both sides of the ball, rolling to a 24-7 victory over their rivals.
Wellington coach Chris Romano called his team's effort complete and said it was something positive to build on.
"Winning creates a great carryover effect," Romano said. "It makes the summer smoother and you begin to want it more."
The Wolverines' offense was led by senior-to-be quarterback Tyler Vanacore, who scored the games' first touchdown on a 4-yard run in the second quarter that made it 10-0.
Vanacore led Wellington's option offense on several impressive drives before being replaced by Ryan Higbee. Higbee scored a rushing touchdown of his own to make it 24-0 in the fourth quarter.
"We expect our offense to be good," Romano said. "We have a big offensive line and it's no secret we're going to run behind them."
Senior-to-be linebackers, Alex Dinardo and Derek May led the Wellington defense. May returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown that gave the Wolverines a 17-0 lead at halftime.
"We're going to be strong. I think we have a good mix of youth and experience," May said. "Tonight was an example of that."
Royal Palm Beach was led by backup quarterback T.J. Arams, who led a fourth-quarter drive capped by a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tremaine McCullough.
McCullough had more than 80 yards receiving in the loss.
West Boca Raton 13, Sebastian River 7: Mauro Bondy made a 20-yard field goal and a 36-yarder in the fourth quarter, helping the Bulls escape the Sharks in Sebastian. Alex Prakas threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Robert Lockhart in the first quarter for West Boca's only TD.
King's Academy 45, John I. Leonard 20: Brian Grove rushed for 205 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Lions past the Lancers in West Palm Beach. Shane Bussey threw for 80 yards and a touchdown for King's.
St. Andrew's 6, Spanish River 0: The visiting Scots shut down the Sharks in Boca Raton.
Jensen Beach 35, John Carroll 21: quarterback Casey Glenn ran for a touchdown and threw for another to help the visiting Falcons to the early lead in the win against the Rams.

Quarterback--Quarterback--Quarterback. To the Wildcats--it's only a spring game-- but Wellington dominates Royal Palm in spring game--thats gotta sting a little.

St. Andrews that mighty power has shut down the sharks. This is a shocker.
Fold the program save money.

Nobody start bashing the wild cats. The team had 17 days to run a new offense & defense. Yes alot of bad was there but plenty of time to fix it. The good & the bad: Blocking could have been better, but we had guys that were hurt or suspended - The leading rushers on the team were both gained by the starting & back up quarterbacks, no rushing game out of the running backs what so ever, hopefully that will get better from all of the backs. Starting q.b. threw an interception that was returned for a score but before that he was almost perfect, count the 2 drops from w.r.'s & he was close to perfect. Later on even thou the back up q.b. was playing agaisnt thier back ups he did well, he almost caused another defensive score when he was going down & he just tossed the ball to no one but then again both quarterbacks didnt have much to work with & just tried to make something happen. We do have to fix the bad snaps, but again he is hiking it a different style than he is used to so that will get better.Defense in the first half didnt really stop anyone but there are alot of good players on the d. & it looks like we have a good defensive coordinator that will fix that. Punting game: Well I dont know what to say about that, that alone was the reason for 2 of wellington scores. We got the time wild cat fans. It will get better.

Never take much from a Spring game. Special teams in reg season make big difference. RPB speed may have created problems on kickoffs and Punt returns. RPB will have a nice QB battle over the next months. TJ seems to have the athleticism needed to run that O. Starter looked alright too. O Line needs some work. That's not a hard snap to make Center needs to get much better or they need to find new one.Wellington played very hard they block well and never quit on play. RPB kids underestimated heart and physicallness of Welly. RPB D line got manhandled..LB's are raw too. Both of these teams are average .

If Wildkatz wanna win T.J. better start at quarterback..nd wellington is not gunna win one game maybe just against forest hill
fan commented on May 22, 2010 at 11:28 a.m.: flag
pbc boy that second part made no sense. Are you saying wellington is not gonna win anymore games except for against forrest hill?
Wellington player commented on May 22, 2010 at 1:51 p.m.: flag
pbc boy. try playing our game and then you can start talking. just because you read the newspaper doesn't mean you know anything about highschool football. Wellington went 5-5 last season and made it to the playoffs, we have lots of talent and aren't to be underestimated.

I went to the game last nite, as we will be playing RPB. RPB, you can come up with all the excuses you want but the bottom line is you were flat out beat by a very disciplined Wellington football team!

Down from college & it was good to see some old friends at the game. Shout out to coach Roy who was at the game last night in the stands. Man that man can cuss with the best of them. It would always crack me up.Keep the starting quarterback in & move the t.j. kid to running back or wide reciever. He just cant throw as good as the blond haired starter kid. Actually by the looks of that style of offense your gonna need both of them so lets rally around them both. That loss had nothing to do with either q.b., every position was bad. I think we needed a couple of cuss words from coach Roy, that would have helped.

I agree shut the Spanish River program, the coaches barely care and they have no support from the admin.

at least the rpb cheerleaders did good lol
Huh commented on May 24, 2010 at 11:16 a.m.: flag
Why the hell should you move t.j. to reciever or running back he threw the ball jus as gud as the brock kid its just that his athleticism to get out the pocket except the one play when he just threw da ball away.I think his running ability overshawdows his throwing abilitity if you were watching the game he didnt incomplete not one pass he went 5-5 with 59 yards and ran for 63 yards those are good number for someone who didnt play but 3 drives but he is a better qb and leader than the brock kid the whole team respons to him better. And by the way that wasnt the backup defense.

The AD at River doesn't care either. Wait till golf season.
baller commented on May 26, 2010 at 10:01 a.m.: flag
GURU.....you really want to deny students at Spanish River the opportunity to play football...the greatest game in our country? Because YOU don't think the coaches care or the administration doesn't care. MAybe the players are not very good oh well. You don't Axe them because they are bad, whats wrong with you? Didn't realize there was a football god out there that decided who lived and died in football world. JuDGE GURU...wow! It's getting deep.

John I wont even make a splash to win districts if we dont change anything they'res a quote that says"Do the same thing u will get nthe same results" understand that got dam 3-5 wont work on defense n dat dam wing t wont work either we need to change our whole Game Plan if we want to do something next year i mean get something conventional like a 4-3 n i-formation.
