The top-seeded teams in the area's toughest district had their hands full Wednesday night.
But the experience of winning in last year's District 9-8A semifinals paid off for top-seeded Jupiter and No. 2 seed Wellington as they outlasted their opponents.
Jupiter swept Palm Beach Central 25-20, 25-15, 25-13 and Wellington rallied to push past Dwyer 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.
With school-activity cancellations on Thursday and Friday, the 9-8A championship match hadn't been scheduled as of late Wednesday night. Coaches expect to play Monday, the day before the regional playoffs begin.
Dwyer's hard-hitting, high-rising outside hitters took early opportunities and helped Dwyer (14-11) win the first game . But Wellington (20-3) banked on its two seniors, Sydney Shinn and Abbie Jo Schlechter, to restore order.
The Wolverines, who reached the Class 8A state title match last year, stormed back to win three uncomfortably close sets in a row. Shinn finished with 17 kills, nine digs and four blocks, and Schlechter added 16 kills and nine digs. Chelsea Boretti contributed 49 assists and 12 digs.
"These girls know what it takes because they were here last year," Wellington coach Brian Bausch said.
Madison Ahearn, one of the area's best offensive players, tallied 22 digs, eight kills and seven service points for Dwyer. Abby Washam (nine kills), Nicole Mejias (40 assists) and Tori Penrod (31 digs) helped Ahearn keep things close.
But it was Wellington that continuously got the breaks when it needed them most.
"This team the past two seasons showed it can play with the best but not put them away," Dwyer coach Karole Hannah said. "Wellington does. They attack everything."
Sophia Servideo had 35 assists and 12 digs for Jupiter (22-3). Danielle Vollender totaled nine digs and eight kills for Central (17-7).
No. 1 Boca Raton d. Seminole Ridge 25-13, 25-13, 25-11: Ruth Harrington had 11 kills, 16 service points and eight digs and Charlotte Earnhart added 11 kills and five digs to lead the top-seeded Bobcats (25-1) past the fourth-seeded Hawks in Boca Raton.
Park Vista d. Spanish River 25-20, 24-26, 25-19, 25-20: Becky Schieckley had 16 kills, 15 digs and eight service points and Kyndal Burdin added 32 assists and seven digs as the second-seeded Cobras (13-13) beat the third-seeded Sharks in Boca Raton.
Martin County d. South Fork 25-20, 25-13, 25-11: Danielle Dodge had nine kills, 19 assists and 13 service points and Jenna Daniel had seven kills to lead the first-seed Tigers (19-7) past the Bulldogs (7-20) in Martin County.
No. 6 Jensen Beach d. Dreyfoos 25-8, 25-9, 25-9: Mackenzie Corson had 17 assists and 10 service points and Nikki Brady added seven kills as the top-seeded Falcons (20-5) defeated the fourth-seeded Jaguars in Jensen Beach.
Suncoast d. Fort Pierce Westwood 25-11, 25-22, 25-21: Alex Craissati had 11 service points, five kills, and four aces and Tara Whalen added five kills, four service points, and four digs as the second-seeded Chargers (11-12) swept the third-seeded Panthers in Jensen Beach.
