Vero Beach defeats Wellington 37-2 in football

Wellington opened the scoring with a safety at the 11:30 mark of the first quarter Monday night against host Vero Beach, but the Wolverines were shut out the rest of the way and fell 37-2.

Matt Sabatino rushed for 44 yards and added two receptions for 21 yards for Wellington (3-7). Wolverines quarterback Cole Smallridge completed passes to five different receivers while throwing for 77 yards. Darley Cazeau added two rushes for 20 yards.

Vero Beach (8-1) outgained Wellington 534-166 in total yards.

District 12-7A tiebreaker

Martin County 7, Port St. Lucie 0: Jermohn Queen scored the game-winning touchdown on a 2-yard run on Martin County's opening possession to give the Tigers a District 12-7A runner-up finish in Stuart in a Kansas tiebreaker. D.J. Juste's 12-yard touchdown run gave Port St. Lucie a 7-0 win over Melbourne-Viera in the first matchup.

Girls soccer

Spanish River 2, Olympic Heights 0: Mollie Kaplan and Sarah Grubman each scored a goal as the Sharks (3-0) shut out the Lions in Boca Raton.

Benjamin 6, Jupiter Christian 0: Katie O'Hare scored three goals and Haley Ciklin had three assists as the Buccaneers (3-0) routed the Eagles in Palm Beach Gardens.

Boca Raton 4, Jupiter 2: Taylor Moos scored two goals and Morgan Mannweiler had a goal and an assist as the Bobcats (3-0) defeated the Warriors in Boca Raton.

Palm Beach Gardens 3, Dreyfoos 2: Caitlin Kader scored two goals and Kelsey Parry added another to lead the Gators (2-0) past the Jaguars in Palm Beach Gardens.

Park Vista 3, Seminole Ridge 0: Maya Pun and Carly Colella each scored a goal and Pun added an assist to help the Cobras (1-1) defeat the Hawks in Loxahatchee.

Lake Worth Christian 6, Pompano Beach-Highlands Christian 0: Kendra Cashion had three goals and an assist and Anna Ropke added a goal and three assists as the Defenders (3-0) shut out the Knights in Pompano Beach.

Martin County 4, Fort Pierce Central 0: Emily Spears had two goals and an assist as the Tigers (3-0) blanked the Cobras in Stuart.

Glades Day 3, Wellington Christian 2: Lizzee Lohmann had two goals and an assist and Kassidy Roberts added a goal and two assists, helping the Gators (2-0) edge the Eagles (1-1) in Belle Glade. Keyera Malloy scored both goals for Wellington Christian.

Vero Beach 3, West Boca Raton 2: Rachel Pittell and Kelly Harris both scored a goal for the Bulls (1-1), but they fell to the Indians in Boca Raton.

Boys soccer

Palm Beach Central 3, Santaluces 1: Jethro Pierre scored two goals and Aly Cadet added another as the Broncos (1-0) defeated the Chiefs in Wellington.

Treasure Coast 3, Jensen Beach 0: Goalkeeper Andrew Weisbrot had 11 saves for the Falcons (0-1), but they fell to the Titans in Port St. Lucie.

Park Vista 1, Seminole Ridge 0: Goalkeeper Derrick Contraeras had nine saves and Steve Sosa scored a goal as the Cobras (1-0) shut out the Hawks (0-1) in Loxahatchee.

Spanish River 4, Olympic Heights 2: Danny Ruiz scored three goals and Juan O'Campo added a goal as the Sharks (1-0) beat the Lions (0-1) in Boca Raton. Sam Convoy scored a goal for the Lions.

King's Academy 4, Coral Springs Charter 2: Austin Masin scored two goals and Cort Brigham and Pedro Ojeda each added a goal apiece, leading the Lions (1-0) over the Panthers (0-1) in West Palm Beach.

Palm Beach Gardens 2, Dreyfoos 0: Kevyn Pinzon and Arlind Pajaziti scored and Bryan Pinzon assisted on both goals as the host Gators defeated the Jaguars.

Ball hit football goal post then went into goal.... it was counted as a goal during match... questionable ref @ Gardens huh???

@ whs alumni : i am amazed at how people protect this coach. i believe it is fine for all to like him - but to say he is a good "coach" or "the one" to turn our program around
is a huge mistake.

I cannot belive the coach of Spanish River is also the coach. His conduct, and mouth are vile.
