As we close in on the top spot of the Class of 2015 Big Board, our second-ranked player draws comparisons to many players, but his coach insists he’s one of a kind.

Lamar Jackson, quarterback, Boynton Beach

6-foot-3, 180 pounds

Offers: FSU, Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina, Auburn, Nebraska, among others

Q&A with Jackson

Q: Are you looking forward to your senior season at Boynton Beach?

A: I’m excited about going into the spring. We’re going to have a great team this year. Our skill players are as good as anybody.

Coach’s take: “I don’t like reading blogs, because I think most people don’t know what they’re talking about. But reading the blogs, everybody’s trying to compare (Jackson) to this guy or that guy, and I keep telling him he’s one of a kind. I’ve never had anybody in four years coaching like him. He’s his own person. He throws the ball excellent, he throws it great on the run and he’s a great scrambler. He’s definitely a dual-threat quarterback.” — Boynton Beach head coach Rick Swain

Last year’s stats: Jackson threw for 1,740 yards and 25 touchdowns, with six interceptions. He also ran for 1,401 yards on 140 carries and scored 16 TDs.

Breakdown: A dual threat at quarterback, Jackson has a strong arm and runs well. He’s learning to put more touch on his passes, and spent much of the offseason polishing his game by playing in 7-on-7 competition and participating in training camps. He expects to return this fall with a better understanding of his position. If he doesn’t rely too heavily on his athleticism, he’ll be difficult to stop.

Check back each day at noon to see the next player on our countdown.
