Before Benjamin’s regional semifinals match against Lake Worth Christian, senior Jessica Armstrong had a message for her teammates.

“My season is not ending today,” she said.

Armstrong was right, as she recorded 15 kills to help the Buccaneers advance to the regional finals for the first time in 17 years.

Behind the 6-foot-2 outside hitter’s dominant play, Benjamin finished with a 23-3 record. The Buccaneers started the season 11-0.

“I wanted to make a mark in my senior year,” she said. “I just wanted to kind of prove myself.”

She definitely proved herself this season. The Stetson commit finished the year with a team-high 245 kills and also added in 79 aces, 42 blocks and 169 digs.

According to Benjamin coach Alex Clarke, Armstrong’s competitive streak is what separates her from other volleyball players.

“She’s very hard on herself,” Clarke said. “But she’s quick to shake off mistakes and quick to shake off bad points, and she comes back a little bit harder next time. She doesn’t make the same mistake twice very often.”

After falling in the regional semifinals as a sophomore, and losing in the regional quarterfinals as a junior, Armstrong saved her best season for last.

“It was fitting that we accomplished so much this year,” Clarke said. “I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving to go out like that.”
