The eighth-ranked player on the Big Board countdown is a hard-working defensive back who has received plenty of college interest already.

5-foot-11, 176 pounds

Offers: Bowling Green, Boston College, FIU, Marshall, Miami, among others

Q&A with Young

Q: What do you hope to accomplish this season with the Hawks?

A: I hope the team comes together and definitely makes it to state. I’m really excited.

Q: Are you leaning in a specific direction as far as the offers you’ve received?

A: I’m going to see how it all plays out, but I just got off an (unofficial) visit to Alabama, and I’m really leaning toward there.

Q: You also saw time at running back last season. What position do you expect to play in college?

A: I’ll probably play defensive back.

Last year’s stats: Young recorded 96 tackles, four sacks and five pass breakups. He also carried the ball 29 times, running for 188 yards and three scores.

Coach’s take: “I think he’s one of the top players at his position in the state of Florida. He has a love for the game. He’s not just a kid who shows up for a football game. This kid is 150 percent committed to everything that we do, whether it’s in the weight room, at practices or camps that we go to. He’s reaping all those benefits right now.” — Seminole Ridge head coach Scott Barnwell

Breakdown: A talented, hard-hitting defensive back with a tremendous work ethic, Young hopes to lead the Hawks back into the playoffs. He already has multiple scholarship offers and is expected to draw continued interest from scouts this season.
