Park Vista earned its first team state championship when the Cobras captured the girls bowling title Thursday at Orlando's Boardwalk Bowl.

In the fourth and final game of the championship match, Park Vista defeated Orange City-University 235-155, marking in every frame and getting strikes in the final five frames.

"We had great team spirit," sophomore Kendra Handler said. "We decided we had to do this. Failure was not an option."

Kyleigh Roulette is the only senior for the Cobras, who finished seventh at state last year.

"We finally made it," Roulette said. "I never actually felt I would be here winning. It's the most amazing feeling."

SWIMMING

Suncoast girls finish second: Sophomore Fabiana Ingram led the Chargers to a second-place finish at the Class 2A state swimming and diving championships at Central Florida YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando.

Suncoast finished second with 161 points, behind Tallahassee Chiles, which won its third consecutive title with 304.5 points.

"I'm very excited," Suncoast coach Valerie Newcomer said. "This year's state competition was a lot more challenging. There was a lot of new swimmers and it was a faster meet. I was really excited the way they stepped up and swam well."

Ingram finished second in the girls 100 backstroke in 56.71. She also swam the lead leg of the Chargers' 200 medley relay team that placed third (1:49.14). The relay also included Daniela Vega, Carolyn Lee and Hannah Vandersluis.
