Post high school football predictions: Proud Pahokee, Cardinal Newman have something to prove (with video)

Pahokee at Cardinal Newman. Two tradition-rich teams, each with something to prove.
Pahokee looks to recover from a 52-0 stomping at Dwyer last week. The Blue Devils were bottled up, unable to do much of anything against a hungry Panthers club. Pahokee fell to 2-1 - and dropped out of The Palm Beach Post's Top-10 rankings for the first time in recent memory.
Cardinal Newman (3-0) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week, and the school has picked Friday night for a gala celebration of Crusader tradition. They've selected a 103-member All-Newman team, celebrating such NFL players as Abram Elam, Jacoby Ford and John Carney, and invited alums from all corners of the country to come cheer on their team.
Not saying they want to spoil the party, but Pahokee certainly wouldn't mind reminding one and all it is still one of the premier programs in the area.
Look for the Blue Devils to use senior running back Jamal Dortch (6 TDs in 3 games) to the fullest. He's their best playmaker, and they'll likely lean on him. Newman's defense doesn't have Dwyer's stifling size, so Pahokee quarterback Joe Eason should be able to breathe a little more this week.
The Crusaders' offense has shown it can score. They have their own game-breaker in senior back Troy Campana, a smaller, speedier weapon than Pahokee's Dortch. New quarterback Brett Benes is on the same page with multipurpose back Travis Rudolph, a freshman, and wide receiver Xavier Swinton. Sophomore back Devonte Brown has been a breakout player.
Matt Porter's pick: After three blowout wins, Crusaders fans are all-in. But their team hasn't faced anyone like Pahokee yet. A win Friday would be huge for either team's season. Despite how badly Newman wants it, I think Pahokee has the mettle to take care of business on the road -- and prove it isn't going away, not just yet. Blue Devils, 24-21.
Jeff Greer's pick: Cardinal Newman is off to a great start, with three blowout wins over Suncoast, Benjamin and Forest Hill. But the Crusaders haven't seen athletes like the ones Pahokee has. Pahokee wins, 35-27.
Porter: Here are some other games I like.
Palm Beach Central is a tough team playing in the toughest district around (8-6A). It's a little early to be thinking about playing spoiler, but I do think Palm Beach Central is going to dash someone's playoff hopes. But it won't happen this week against Park Vista. Cobras 34-17.
Since I don't know which Jupiter is showing up tomorrow - the team that almost beat Park Vista in Week 1, or the team that lost to Seminole Ridge 35-0 last week - I have to take a tough Vero Beach squad on the road. Indians, 27-20.
American Heritage and Pope John Paul II were involved in close games last week, but American Heritage is on a roll after almost upsetting Glades Central in Muck City. Stallions, 35-10.
Greer: West Boca has the defense to clamp down Palm Beach Lakes' athletes. I like West Boca in a close one, 21-16.
Roshard Burney and Alex Clark give Palm Beach Gardens a nice rushing attack. Treasure Coast still hasn't found its offense. Gardens, 13-8.
Look for Lake Worth to ride quarterback Evan Moore and get back on track with a big 49-6 win at Forest Hill.

Royal Palm is going to crush those soft players on Glades this Friday night, It will be raining, fumbles galore & all those soft players they have on defense will fold! T-Page will wish he was still at Royal Palm. Go Wild Cats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shut UP commented on September 22, 2010 at 8:11 a.m.: report abuse
Nobody at RPB thinks that. Stop trying to start trouble . RPB just will come to play hard and be respectable.
I'm telling you commented on September 22, 2010 at 9 a.m.: report abuse
Stop being so negative, our offense is way over due & we are about to click, why not us? We cant beat those guys, A. Heritage almost did it, we can to. My prediction: bad weather, Special teams runs a kick in for a score, 2 touch down passes, & our running game runs some clock. We pull off the upset of the year, stop being negative, just get behind your team. Go Wildcats!
Shut Up commented on September 22, 2010 at 9:20 a.m.: report abuse
True that is why you play the game but I'm Telling You an 0-3 team that couldn't score against lightweight opponents should just shut up and play. The RPB offense is an absolute mess as far as execution, blocking, play calling and turnovers.
NOE CANO commented on September 22, 2010 at 9:31 a.m.: report abuse
WELL I'M TELLING YOU! ROYAL PALM WILL NOT SCORE THIS WEEK, GC HAD AN OFF WEEK AGAINST AMERICAN HERITAGE. GLADES CENTRAL WILL FLEX ITS MUSCLES THIS WEEK AND REMIND EVERYONE THAT THEY, NOT DWYER ARE THE KINGS OF PALM BEACH COUNTY! NC

leeandre roberts, Dwyer just came into the seen 3 yrs ago, Glades Central has ruled Palm Beach County for decades! Dwyer is yet to beat GC, to be the Man you got to beat the Man! (Ric Flair) Glades Central has ruled Dwyer with an Iron fist for years and until Dwyer has beaten Glades Central, Glades Central is still "the Man!" 1993, GC 77- Dwyer 6! Its been like that ever since! So ask Jack Daniels: Coach, why did you really not scedule Glades Central this year? He'll tell you why! NC

Responding to Stallion: I agree with you AH played GC hard especially that we came out flat; good game.
Okay switch gears, Royal Palm Beach will not (repeat) beat Glades Central. Wildcats...no "Kittycats". Whatever you do, take it easy on #6, Lloyd "Bam" Howard...he's from the Muck. Go Raiders!!

When has T.J, Tremaine, or for that fact anyone on that team ever shown this unbelievable talent we keep hearing about? NEVER! oh its the o-lines fault, next week it will be the coaches fault then the week after that it will be the a.d's fault or maybe when they were playing in the 95 pound little leagues they were stars. Anyway no one on that team has talent - no one! they are all terrible! Flunkies of Palm Beach County. Signed:Ex -RPB. parent.
Bronco Booster commented on September 24, 2010 at 10:15 a.m.: report abuse
Palm Beach Central will beat Vista by 21 mpoints. Vista will be lucky to get a touchdown especially with their injuries. Central's D is for real
retired commented on September 24, 2010 at 11:49 a.m.: report abuse
There is a lot of work to be done by coaches and players at RPB. Just support them win or loose. If in 4 years they are still at this point then a change should be made. Apparently all of the critics out there have no idea how hard it can be to put a staff together in this day and age. Nobody gets their people in the school unless you are at a private school. You have to work with what is available and at times teach them. The only way to do that is to get knocked down and get back up...school of hard knocks!
Florida Gator Recruit commented on September 24, 2010 at 12:02 p.m.: report abuse
Watchout for Fort Pierce Central.. I keep telling yawl, they for real yo. They just getting better and better. Once they start clicking or as they say, "get in mid season form" they are going to be one of the best teams in the State. They just got there other stars back from injury. So now just sit back and watch em
run the table for the rest of the season. Oh yeah by the way, They are going to beat Fort Pierce Westwood (who are by the way the #6th ranked team in 4A) !!

Raised at the north end of Pahokee airport all my life. My dad ran the aroipt during the late 60s. Who are your parents? I am sure they know of the Belk family, my dad moved to Pahokee in 1949 as a crop duster. Love the new show, The Glades, but it is a bit disappointing they aren't using footage from the area.
