After splitting its first two matchups against Royal Palm Beach this season, third-ranked Palm Beach Lakes won when it mattered most Saturday night, defeating the No. 10 Wildcats 51-43 in Saturday night's District 13-7A championship in West Palm Beach.
Saturday's game was close throughout, which was to be expected after their previous two meetings -- a 58-48 Palm Beach Lakes victory on Jan. 12 and a 65-61 Royal Palm Beach win on Jan. 22.
Host Palm Beach Lakes trailed 22-21 at halftime, but took a 35-31 lead into the fourth quarter and maintained the lead through the final buzzer.
"The second half, we just wanted to make sure we kept them off the boards and not allow them any second shots" Palm Beach Lakes coach Lorenzo Hands said. "We knew at halftime that they had nine offensive rebounds and that's what kept the game close."
Sophomore guard Quincy Rideau scored 18 points to lead the Rams (20-3), who advance to host Lake Worth in Thursday's regional quarterfinals.
Joe Joe Williams scored 13 points for the Wildcats (17-7), who play at Atlantic on Thursday.
If the Rams and Wildcats each win Thursday, they will meet for a fourth time in the regional semifinals on Feb. 19.

"He pushes himself beyond what he thinks he can do. He's the most aggressive kid, the most talented wrestler I've ever coached. His speed is unbelievable for his size." Sounds like he needs to be tested.

Don't let them burst your bubble Norieta. All the credit to you and George and also thanks goes to the coaches who have supported Jesse over the past few years. We are so proud of him and happy for him. Jealousy ALWAYS brings up the "bottom feeders". Every sport, every school, boys or girls; when a kid is headed for great things some will congratulate them and others will try to bring them down. Luckily kids like Jesse are strong enough to handle that ugliness and use it to become even better. It is just a hard thing for a mom to hear. Hold your head high and know there are many who are happy for you.

If you want to you can find dirt on anyone. We have all made mistakes but there is no need to have kids relive mistakes their parents have already paid for. You or your parents have skeletons in your closet that you will not want your kids to have to pay for. The Stephano's are neighbors of mine and I know first hand that Jesse has spent years training at 5am before going to school and joining his teammates there to do more work. Your jealousy is repulsive. Go crawl back under your rock.
