The three-game stretch Jacoby Brissett produced in this season's playoffs was among the greatest in Dwyer's history.
The junior averaged 24 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists during the first three rounds of the post-season to catapult the Panthers to their second straight final four appearance. In the regional semifinal and final, he shot a combined 16-for-23 from the field.
"I don't think anybody could've played better than he did," Dwyer coach Fred Ross said. "That stretch was one of those performances that the average player is not capable of. That's why we won, because he was so efficient. He was dominant."
Despite joining the team in mid-season — he was busy quarterbacking the football team to a state title — Brissett averaged 15.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game
He played all five positions for Dwyer, both offensively and defensively, and his 6-foot-5, 225-pound frame made him problematic for opponents at both ends of the court.
"His size and athleticism is hard to match up with," Jupiter guard Kevin Paxson said. "You can't put a guard on him and you can't put a post player on him, either. There's not much you can do."
When Dwyer graduated Ramon Galloway a year ago, the onus was on Brissett to lead. Tia Harris filled in while Brissett was playing football, but when Brissett returned, he elevated the Panthers into a championship-caliber team.
Dwyer fell short of its ultimate goal by losing to Bartow in the state semifinals. Brissett, who felt ill the day of the game, was scoreless through three quarters and managed just six points in the loss. Ross believes that performance will be a springboard to Brissett's off-season training.
"I've been thinking about it every day," Brissett said. "Every time I work out, that's what's on my mind."
