High school football preview: The Post's Top 25
Thursday, September 02, 2010
1. Dwyer
The Panthers have three of the best senior recruits in the nation in Nick O'Leary, Curt Maggitt and Jacoby Brissett and a talented supporting cast, making them an easy choice for the top spot.
2. Glades Central
New QB Jamarious Rowley's transition will be easier with the talent he has around him.
3. Park Vista
Questions in the secondary, but the area's best running game gives the Cobras a slight advantage in District 8-6A.
4. Seminole Ridge
Senior Tyler Butler is considered one of the top LBs in the area, and RB Gary Holmes brings punch to the Hawks' option attack.
5. Boca Raton
Tough defense and size on the lines, but depth at skill positions could be an issue.
6. Treasure Coast
Area's best defense from last season returns FSU-bound defensive backs Lamarcus Brutus and Keelin Smith.
7. American Heritage
Stallions have won two of the past three Class 1A state titles, and three of four isn't out of the question.
8. Glades Day
If star running back Kelvin Taylor is healthy, the Gators are the team to beat in Class 1B.
9. Jupiter Christian
Junior Keddy Bostic has made big strides at QB, and he has weapons in RB Trey Pendergrass and WR Josh Talbott.
10. Pahokee
Replacing every starter would drop most teams off the radar, but the Blue Devils have enough talent to compete.
11. West Boca Raton
The Bulls are the team to beat in District 13-5A, and senior two-way lineman Corey King is their unquestioned leader.
12. Atlantic
DT Luther Maddy, LB Jephete Matilus and DB Kevie Defranc power the Eagles' talented defense.
13. Fort Pierce Central
All-America Giorgio Newberry and senior Mike Marseille give the Cobras great size in the trenches.
14. Fort Pierce Westwood
Junior QB Travares Copeland will throw behind a veteran offensive line that returns all five starters this season.
15. Wellington
The Wolverines are on the upswing, led by talented OT Brynjar Gudmundsson.
16. Santaluces
Two-way star and Wisconsin commit Terrance Floyd will have to produce for the Chiefs.
17. Olympic Heights
Seventeen starters are back from last year's Lions playoff team.
18. Palm Beach Gardens
Three strong RBs give coach Chris Davis some options on offense.
19. Jupiter
The Warriors are a year away from doing serious damage but junior QB Tyler Cameron is the real deal.
20. Royal Palm Beach
The Wildcats' option running attack has its hands full in a tough District 12-5A.
21. Palm Beach Central
Junior WR Angelo Jean-Louis will turn some heads this season, but the Broncos face several tough tests in a brutal 8-6A.
22. Lake Worth
The young Trojans will be led by talented returning QB Evan Moore.
23. Palm Beach Lakes
The Rams might be rebuilding by their standards, but coach Alonzo Jefferson still has talent to work with.
24. Cardinal Newman
A bit undersized but there's plenty of skill including RB Troy Campana.
25. Boynton Beach
DE John Harris assumes the leading role for coach Rick Swain's defense.

This message is for Jeff Greer and Matt Porter. Hey I appreciate the good work you two are doing and look forward to seeing more but I just want to give yall a heads up on my son Darrion "Dee" Richardson. He plays strong safety for Atlantic and he wears #2. He's only a sophmore but he's a head hunter and has a good eye for the ball. I transfer him from Boynton High last spring where he also started at safety for their varsity team. I look forward to him having a great season and soon to be one of your Super 11 picks. To be continue...........

As the Father of a former Hawk freshman, JV, and two year varsity football player, I have been to 80% of Seminole Ridge's football games in the last several years and ALL 12 varsity games last year. There was no MISUNDERSTANDING, #44 McPherson was the starting MLB last year and #34 Butler was the starting RB/FB. Why Tyler was awarded 1st team honors was because #44 struggled in some big games and #34 replaced him @ LB and was a BEAST. I'll give one example; Boca game last year, Ed Sullivan and that great passing team was RUNNING all over us. Coach pulled #44 and #34 came in and closed the holes on em. I've got a few more, if you want to argue. This season, Side by side, you better watch out. Steven is a great linebacker, and so is Tyler, but don't make excuses why one was 1st team and one was 2nd team, especially when it's not the complete truth. Tyler Butler played enough at linebacker last year to win his honor and Steven McPherson deserved his too.

hey yes & no
#44 is the leader of the D for a reason and yes Tyler is a great LB but Steven played the whole year at LB and always has, Tyler was his back up and did not even play enough LB to `receive 1st team honors and yes the SR ( D ) coach had a tendency to pull kids for one mistake but every one knows offensive players get more attention and that is why this happened ,Tyler is a great FB and he does deserve highest honors but he did not play nearly enough D to be recognized that way at LB, and I have been at every game they have had for three years.
I believe SOME of the media & coaches of opposing teams thought Tyler was in the whole year ,Tyler is #34 Steve is #44 they are both huge!

There are five teams on this list that Suncoast will/or would have beaten if they had their complete team to begin the season. You can start at #20 and go down to #25. Suncoast would beat them all.

Tre's last year ? you know we should be at top three, like we are.. Ofcourse we have a great oline and a great rb..
But our secondary isnt hurting at all . Yes there young, but there talented, and already have piled up some turn overs for our defence ..
We are a solid team overall .
And with tre leaving this year, its just going to make him play that much harder .
I wont predict how far we will get this season, but ill say this, with the coaching staff, and talent we have this year.. Everybody should look at us as a challenge, nothing less.
