Baseball: Santaluces upsets No. 5 American Heritage

Troy Stark drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Santaluces upset fifth-ranked American Heritage 4-3 at the Santaluces Slam in Lantana.

Stark also threw three shutout innings to earn the win for the Chiefs (1-1).

American Heritage fell to 1-1 on the season.

Boca Raton 7, No. 1 Dwyer 3: Joshua Messier was 1-for-2 with an RBI, but the Panthers (0-1) fell to the Bobcats (1-0) in Palm Beach Gardens.

Trinity Christian 5, No. 3 Palm Beach Central 2: Franco Guadra was 3-for-3 and fell a home run short of the cycle with three RBI to lead the Warriors (2-0) to the upset of the Broncos (1-1) at the Santaluces Slam in Lantana. Raige Hasko was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Palm Beach Central.

No. 4 Jupiter 14, King's Academy 6: Pat Walther was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI and Zac Hall was 3-for-5 with three RBI as the Warriors (2-0) routed the Lions (1-1) at the Santaluces Slam in Lantana.

Summit Christian 7, Atlantic 6: Shane Swanson was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI and Jesse Barton went 2-for-4 with an RBI to help the Saints (1-1) top the Eagles (0-2) at the Santaluces Slam in Lantana.

John I. Leonard 6, Suncoast 5: Noel Canete was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs to help the Lancers (1-0) edge the Chargers (0-1) in Greenacres. Jared Johnston struck out seven while earning the win.

Olympic Heights 11, Palm Beach Lakes 3: Vincent Scambone was 2-for-4 with two RBI as the Lions (1-0) handled the Rams (0-1) in West Palm Beach.

Spanish River 5, West Boca Raton 3: Ryan Berger had three hits, including a double, two RBI and a run scored and Alex Bemchak struck out eight on the mound as the Sharks (1-0) defeated the visiting Bulls (0-1) in Boca Raton. Sean Kuchta had two RBI for West Boca.

St. Andrew's 10, Miami-Archbishop Curley 0 (6): Anthony Cirillo was 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs, and two walks and Zach Moses also collected two hits as the Scots (2-0) cruised past the Knights (0-1) in Miami.

Glades Day 9, Moore Haven 4: John Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with two RBIs as the Gators (1-0) defeated the Terriers (0-1) in Belle Glade. Noel Figueroa struck out eight while earning the win.

Vero Beach-St. Edward's 6, Jupiter Christian 5: Garrett Schook was 1-for-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI, but the Eagles (1-1) fell to the Pirates (1-0) in Vero Beach.

Port St. Lucie 3, Lincoln Park Academy 0: Robert Dodd pitched five innings, was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and David Ayala collected an RBI double and scored a run to lead the Jaguars (1-0) over the Greyhounds in Port St. Lucie.

South Fork 10, Centennial 0 (5): Jason Popovich pitched a no-hitter with six strikeouts and Andrew Calderone was 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the Bulldogs (1-0) shut down the Eagles (0-1) in Stuart. Nick Snyder also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Cardinal Newman 15, Lake Worth 1 (5): Bruce Steel hit three triples and scored all three times as the Crusaders (1-0) routed the Trojans (0-1) late Monday in West Palm Beach. Anthony Zaleski struck out nine in five innings to earn the win.

Despite what may have happened in the past, the Dwyer's girls look like the team to beat this year! Samantha Glodis, "How bout them Dawgs"!!!!!!
