Abby Bukovich had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four assists as host Boca Raton held off a late charge and defeated West Boca Raton 53-45 in the Mayor's Challenge girls basketball tournament game Friday night.
West Boca (4-13), which entered the final period trailing 41-29 pulled to within 46-45 on a three-pointer by Ali Shook with 4:14 remaining in the contest. It was her second of the period. The Bulls had four three-pointers in the quarter, but could draw no closer.
"We knew we had to battle the storm," said second year Bobcats coach Amanda Bulin. "We played a little on our heels the second half, and that has been our problem all year. We start the first half well, but get into lulls the second half. West Boca never gives up and they showed it tonight."
Gabby Daniels added 11 points for Boca Raton (6-7).
West Boca's Jess Perrin led all scorers with 20 points.
In the earlier game, Spanish River (7-9) held off a late challenge by Olympic Heights (1-15) for a 31-26 victory.
Kacie Grossman led the Sharks with nine points, while Aly Haberman added eight. Chrissi Danko had a game-high nine rebounds. The Lions' Katrina Farese led all scorers with 11 points.
Palm Beach Central 74, Pahokee 13: Lexus Love had 13 points and nine rebounds and Ashante Dolby added 11 points to help the Broncos (11-3) cruise past the Blue Devils in Wellington.
Seminole Ridge 58, Village Academy 29: Rebecca Lane had 16 points and 10 rebounds to help the Hawks (10-8) beat the Tigers in Loxahatchee. Jessica Cody added 15 points and seven rebounds and Kaitlin O'Hara contributed 11 points, eight steals and four assists for Seminole Ridge. Deandra Akins scored 13 points for Village Academy.
St. Andrew's 61, Clewiston 17: Angela Alvarez had 21 points and 16 rebounds and Madison Clark added 10 points and six assists as the Scots (11-4) rolled past the Tigers in Boca Raton.
Boca Raton Christian 30, Grandview Prep 15: Alicia Feldi had eight points and eight rebounds to lead the Blazers (7-1) past the Pride in Boca Raton.
King's Academy 48, Lake Worth Christian 22: Kathleen Wiggs had 14 points and seven rebounds and Cathryn Urso added 11 points and nine assists to help the Lions (9-6) handle the Defenders (3-9) in Boynton Beach. Emily Wade led Lake Worth Christian with eight points.
Jupiter Christian 75, Highlands Christian 32: Amber Teufel scored 18 points and Stephanie Kumler recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds as the Eagles (9-5) routed the Knights at the Defender Shootout in Boynton Beach.
Berean Christian 30, Pine School 18: Samie Lesperance had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Jessica Barber added nine rebounds and eight points to help the Bulldogs (7-9) beat the Knights in West Palm Beach.
