Marcus Levy ran for two touchdowns and caught one and Fort Pierce Central blew open a close game late in the second half in a 40-14 victory over Martin County in the Class 7A-Region 3 semifinals in Fort Pierce.
The Cobras (11-0, ranked No. 3 in the state) built a 20-0 lead by early in the second quarter but saw it cut to 20-14 late in the third. Central then scored 20 points to seize control for good. The Cobras advance to play the winner of the game between Bradenton-Manatee (11-0) and Venice (9-2) for the regional championship next Friday night.
It is the second straight year Martin County (5-7) has lost to Central in the regional semifinals.
Fort Pierce Central scored first, taking a 7-0 lead on Levy's 5-yard run at 6:09 of the first quarter. Levy made it 14-0 with a 4-yard run less than a minutes into the second quarter, and the Cobras extended their lead to 20-0 on Sam Vaughn's 33-yard scoring pass to James Blackshell. The point-after kick failed.
Martin County cut its deficit to 20-7 on Dan Filhaber's 1-yard run with 2 seconds left in the first half. Jermohn Queen's 1-yard run at 7:24 of the third quarter made it 20-14, but the Cobras answered with Levy doing the honors again by catching a 27-yard TD from Sam Vaughn. The conversion pass failed, leaving Central ahead 26-14, but the Cobras added two more touchdowns to pull away. Vaughn threw a 24-yard pass to Josh Knight and Vaughn scored on a 21-yard run.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Suncoast Charger Classic
Grandview Prep 64, Palm Beach Gardens 56: Ivan Canete scored 32 points to lead the Pride (1-0) past the Gators (1-1) in Riviera Beach. Pavin Smith led Gardens with 12 points.
Suncoast 61, Chaminade 37: Jonathan Odjo had 16 points and four assists and LaTarance Butts added 17 points and five assists to lead the Chargers (1-0) past the Lions (0-1). In today's games, North Broward Prep will play Palm Beach Gardens at 4 p.m.; Atlantic will play Grandview Prep at 5:30 p.m., and Suncoast will play John I. Leonard at 7 p.m.
Benjamin 54, Treasure Coast 46: Isaiah Hobbs scored 17 points and Brandon Shed added 15 points to lead the Buccaneers (2-0) to victory over the Titans in Port St. Lucie.
Jensen Beach 76, Naples-Barron Collier 62: Jean Alexis scored 26 points, David Thompson chipped in 19 and Willie Battistini had 11 points as the Falcons downed the Cougar in the Turkey Shootout in Cape Coral .
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Treasure Coast 53, Fort Pierce Central 28: Rosemarie Jullien had 23 points and 12 rebounds, Alexys Romano had 16 points and Marriah Nunnaly added five points and nine assists as the Titans (4-0) routed the Cobras in Port St. Lucie. Lasonja Edwards had 14 points and Roneisha Jordan added 10 for Fort Pierce Central.

Thanksgiving Classic
Suncoast 68, John I. Leonard 35: Jaylin Hawkins had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Capri Winn added 12 points and four assists as the Chargers (1-3) beat the Lancers in Greenacres. Joshelle Birche scored 18 points for John I. Leonard.
Palm Beach Gardens 56, West Boca Raton 31: Breanna Frazier scored 20 points to lead the Gators (2-1) past the Bulls. Shaina Wottiz had11 points for West Boca Raton.
Boynton Beach 63, Grandview Prep 52: Shakoa Edwards scored 32 points and Ta'Kerria Brown added 18 points to lead the Tigers past the Pride (2-1). Vionise Pierre-Louis paced the Pride with 28 points.
Jupiter 58, Boca Raton 49: Katie Rienas and Sharonda Thomas each scored 18 points to lead the Warriors (3-0) past the Bobcats (3-2).

Olympic Heights and Santaluces played in the Girls basketball Thanksgiving classic as well yet their score is not indicated. How do we insure our scores/stats get included in the paper like the other schools and can the score from Friday be printed tomorrow? Thanks.
