Boys Basketball: No. 4 Jupiter stops No. 6 Lake Worth

Mike Edgley picked a good night to catch fire.

With his fourth-ranked Jupiter squad facing a tough road challenge at sixth-ranked Lake Worth, the senior Edgley made three 3-pointers and scored 34 points to pace Jupiter past Lake Worth 69-62 in a Tuesday matchup of two of the area's top teams.

Edgley scored 21 points in the first half as Jupiter (15-5) raced to a 43-32 halftime lead. His 13 second-half points, paired with FAU-signee Grant Pelchen's eight points, seven rebounds and five blocks, did just enough to stave off a Lake Worth comeback.

"I wouldn't call him a pure shooter, but when he gets going, he gets going," Jupiter coach John Andersen said of the 6-foot-4 Edgley. "When he shoots like that, he's unguardable."

Andersen scheduled Tuesday's game for multiple reasons. A longtime rival, Lake Worth (20-4) possesses enough talent to make a state-title run.

Andersen also wanted his players to experience Lake Worth's intimate gym, a bandbox basketball theater full of nostalgia.

The atmosphere didn't affect Jupiter, though, even as the public-address announcer menacingly groaned "uh-ohh" as Lake Worth began its rally back from an 13-point deficit.

"This was a big game for us," said Andersen, whose team hosts fifth-ranked Atlantic on Wednesday night. "We shot the ball great in the first half, but we talked about getting better defensively. I think we did that in the final quarter."

The Trojans overcame a significant size advantage to keep the game close while dropping its second game in two weeks
