Basketball: Lake Worth girls capture district championship

Jonika Garvin had 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists, leading second-ranked Lake Worth to a 67-53 win over Atlantic in the District 14-7A championship Friday night in Boca Raton.

Erna Normil added 13 points, six rebounds and two assists to lead the top-seeded Trojans (22-3).

District 12-7A

Martin County 63, Fort Pierce Central 47: Nene Johnson had 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals and Yasmine Queen added nine points and eight rebounds as the third-seeded Tigers (17-9) defeated the second-seeded Cobras (13-14) in Fort Pierce. Martin County advances to face Sebastian River in tonight's championship.

Sebastian River 75, Okeechobee 15: Ami Edwards scored six points, but the fourth-seeded Brahmans (9-13) were routed by the top-seeded Sharks (20-2) in Fort Pierce.

BOYS

Coral Springs Christian 58, No. 1 Grandview Prep 48: Ivan Canete scored 28 points and Sean Walsh added six points, but the Pride fell to the Crusaders in Coral Springs.

No. 5 Atlantic 54, Santaluces 53: David Knowles had 12 points, six assists and four steals and Todney Evans grabbed 10 rebounds as the Eagles (19-6) edged the Chiefs in Delray Beach.

No. 8 Suncoast 68, Jupiter Christian 44: Patrick Johnson had 12 points and six rebounds and LaTarence Butts added 11 points and seven assists as the Chargers (21-4) handled the Eagles in Riviera Beach.

No. 9 Wellington 72, Seminole Ridge 40: Dondre Duffus scored 15 points and Alex Peavler added 14 to lead the Wolverines to the rout of the Hawks (6-18) in Loxahatchee.

Dwyer 60, Miami Central 57: Kenny Anders had 21 points, Kevin Howard had five points and six steals and Alex Davis had seven points and eight rebounds to lead the Panthers (8-15) past the Rockets (11-12) in Palm Beach Gardens.

Park Vista 61, Palm Beach Central 43: Yephnick Adelphonse scored 17 points and Keith Dow added 13 to lead the Cobras over the Broncos in Boynton Beach.

Benjamin 61, Lincoln Park Academy 58: Isiah Hobbs scored 20 points and Tyler Kasten added six assists to help the Buccaneers (16-9) hold off the Greyhounds (12-10) in Fort Pierce.

Boca Raton 68, West Boca Raton 59: Max McKee tallied 27 points and 12 rebounds and Mike O'Connor scored all 17 of his points in the second half as the Bobcats (12-13) downed the Bulls in Boca Raton. Maxx Bleecher paced West Boca with 18 points.

Glades Central 62, Moore Haven 31: Andrae Tommie scored 12 points as the Raiders (4-16) doubled up the Terriers in Belle Glade.

Berean Christian 53, Boca Raton Christian 50: Austin Skelton scored 15 points, Josh Taylor added 13 and Charles Howell contributed eight points and eight assists to help the Bulldogs (18-6) hold off the Blazers in West Palm Beach.
