BOYS BASKETBALL DISTRICT CAPSULES
DISTRICT 6-8A (at Treasure Coast)
Favorite: Treasure Coast
Contender: Vero Beach
Dark horse: Centennial
Breakdown: Treasure Coast is the top seed here, but both Centennial and Vero gave the Titans good games this season.
Wednesday
Vero Beach (2) vs. Centennial (3), 7 p.m.
Friday
Treasure Coast (1) vs. Vero Beach/Centennial winner, 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 9-8A
Favorite: Jupiter
Contender: Wellington
Dark horse: Dwyer
Breakdown: Jupiter has state potential, especially with senior wing Mike Edgley playing so well. If Wellington or Dwyer can speed Jupiter up, the probable title game could be a good one.
Wednesday
Palm Beach Gardens (5) at Palm Beach Central (4), 7 p.m.
Friday (at Wellington)
Jupiter (1) vs. Palm Beach Central/Palm Beach Gardens winner, 6 p.m.
Wellington (2) vs. Dwyer (3), 7:30 p.m.
Saturday (at Wellington)
Final: Teams TBD 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 10-8A (at John I. Leonard)
Favorite: Park Vista
Contender: Spanish River
Dark horse: Boca Raton, John I. Leonard
Breakdown: Good luck picking this one. Vista is the top seed, but River, Boca, Leonard and Ridge can all be competitive. River guard Jeffrey Demezier could steal the show.
Tuesday
John I. Leonard (4) vs. Seminole Ridge (5), 7 p.m.
Wednesday
Spanish River (2) vs. Boca Raton (3), 6 p.m.
Park Vista (1) vs. John I. Leonard/Seminole Ridge winner, 7:30 p.m.
Friday
Final: Teams TBD, 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 12-7A (at Martin County)
Favorite: Martin County
Contender: Sebastian River
Dark horse: Fort Pierce Central, Port St. Lucie
Breakdown: Martin County is 3-2 against state-ranked opponents, and beat Jupiter and Wellington this season. Jermohn Queen is the Tigers' key and could lead them to state.
Today
Port St. Lucie (4) vs. South Fork (5), 5:30 p.m.
Fort Pierce Central (3) vs. Okeechobee (6), 7 p.m.
Tuesday
Sebastian River (2) vs. Central/Okeechobee winner, 5:30 p.m.
Martin County (1) vs. PSL/South Fork winner, 7 p.m.
Thursday
Final: Teams TBD, 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 13-7A (at Palm Beach Lakes)
Contenders: Palm Beach Lakes, Royal Palm Beach
Dark horse: Santaluces
Breakdown: The Lakes-Royal Palm championship game would be a tasty third matchup between bitter rivals. Lakes received all the attention this season, but Royal Palm edged the Rams in the teams' second meeting.
Wednesday
Palm Beach Lakes (2) vs. Santaluces (3), 6 p.m.
Royal Palm Beach (1) vs. Forest Hill (4), 7:30 p.m.
Saturday
Final: Teams TBD, 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 14-7A (at Atlantic)
Contenders: Atlantic, Lake Worth
Breakdown: Another 7A tossup. Atlantic is deeper, but Lake Worth can score a lot of points in a hurry. Both should get past opening-round opponents, but this district is always tough to predict.
Wednesday
Lake Worth (1) vs. Olympic Heights (4), 6 p.m.
Atlantic (2) vs. West Boca Raton (3), 7:30 p.m.
Friday
Final: Teams TBD, 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 15-5A (at Jensen Beach)
Favorite: Suncoast
Contender: Jensen Beach
Dark horse: Boynton Beach
Quick hitter: After a breakout season last year, Suncoast appears ready for a deep postseason run. LaTerence Butts (12.8 points), Santigie Fornah (11.4) and Jonathan Odjo (11.3) can each carry the load for the Chargers.
Wednesday
Suncoast (1) vs. Fort Pierce Westwood (4), 5:30 p.m.
Jensen Beach (2) vs. Boynton Beach (3), 7 p.m.
Saturday
Final: Teams TBD, 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 12-4A (at St. Andrew's)
Favorite: St. Andrew's
Contender: Cardinal Newman
Dark horse: Lincoln Park
Breakdown: St. Andrew's was the clear favorite -- until Newman surprised the Scots late in the season. Now Newman, with sophomores Andrew Owers and John Collins, really looks dangerous.
Today
Glades Central (4) vs. Inlet Grove (5), 7 p.m.
Wednesday
St. Andrew's vs. Glades Central/Inlet Grove, 5:30 p.m.
Cardinal Newman (2) vs. Lincoln Park Academy (3), 7 p.m.
Friday
Final: Teams TBD, 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 12-3A
Favorite: Benjamin
Contender: Pahokee
Dark horse: Berean Christian
Breakdown: Benjamin entered the season with very high hopes but stumbled out of the gate. The Bucs have caught fire lately and start the postseason with some momentum.
Tuesday
Jupiter Christian (5) at King's Academy, 7 p.m.
Friday (at Pahokee)
Pahokee (2) vs. Berean Christian (3), 5 p.m.
Benjamin (1) vs. King's Academy/Jupiter Christian (5), 7 p.m.
Saturday(at Pahokee)
Final: Teams TBD, 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 13-3A (at American Heritage)
Favorite: Summit Christian
Contender: Village Academy
Dark horse: American Heritage
Breakdown: Summit Christian is perhaps the hottest team in the area right now, though Newman has an argument for that title. Summit possesses fantastic guard play, and that's always a plus in postseason play.
Tuesday
American Heritage (3) vs. Trinity Christian (6), 5:30 p.m.
Pope John Paul II (4) vs. Yeshiva (5), 7 p.m.
Friday
Village Academy (2) vs. American Heritage/Trinity Christian, 5:30 p.m.
Summit Christian (1) vs. Pope John Paul II/Yeshiva winner, 7 p.m.
Saturday
Final: Teams TBD, 7 p.m.
DISTRICT 11-2A (at Pine School)
Favorite: Master's Academy
Contender: Pine School
Breakdown: Pine School hosts the district tournament, which is a nice advantage. Pine and Master's split the season series.
Tuesday
Community Christian (4) vs. Vero Beach-Master's Academy (1), 5:30 p.m.
Morningside Academy (3) vs. Pine School (2), 7 p.m.
Saturday
Final: Teams TBD, 4 p.m.
DISTRICT 12-2A
Favorite: Grandview Prep
Contender: Lake Worth Christian
Breakdown: Ivan Canete is the best player in the county, but he needs consistent help from Sean Walsh and company. If the Pride can get some quality rebounding and post play, they can make a state run.
Today
Donna Klein (5) at Glades Day (4), 6 p.m.
Wellington Christian (7) at Lake Worth Christian (2), 6 p.m.
FAU High (6) at Boca Raton Christian (3), 7 p.m.
Tuesday (at Lake Worth Christian)
Grandview Prep (1) vs. Glades Day/Donna Klein winner, 5:30 p.m.
Lake Worth Christian/Wellington Christian winner vs. Boca Raton Christian/FAU High winner, 7 p.m.
Saturday (at Lake Worth Christian)
Final: Teams TBD, 7 p.m.

Good luck to her this season! One thing not mentioned about Whitney Benik is that she went to Boca Raton HS her frosh year and did very well playing in the #1 position. She lost in the districts in singles but advanced to the state semifinals in #1 doubles. From there she went back to Am Heritage where she had gone in 8th grade and proceeded to do very well with Coach Schleifer in the very competitive 1A class (as mentioned in the article) and then to U of Florida.
