All-Area: Trey Pendergrass, small schools offensive player of the year

by Jeff Greer
For the second year in a row, Jupiter Christian featured a dynamic, undersized running back capable of breaking open big plays every time he touched the ball.
Last season, it was coach Bill Powers' son, Will. This season, it was 5-foot-6, 150-pound senior Trey Pendergrass.
Lightning fast with a knack for finding the tiniest of creases, Pendergrass averaged 10.6 yards per carry en route to 2,018 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns this season.
He also added 13 catches for 173 yards and five touchdowns.
He was the focal point of the area's most potent offense, yet throughout his breakout season, he didn't really say all that much.
Pendergrass is as quiet as he is small. His playmaking ability speaks for itself.
"He's the most humble kid I know," said teammate Ryan Powers, who served as a changeup runner for Pendergrass. "He doesn't say anything. He just goes out there and gets after it."
Pendergrass put up his eye-popping offensive statistics despite having games where he didn't get many touches because Jupiter Christian was blowing out its opponent.
He also found time to play defensive back for the Eagles as well.
Pendergrass took his standout season in stride with his trademark coolness.
"I just try and go out there and do what it takes to help my team," he said.
