All-Area girls soccer: Tatiana Coleman, large schools player of the year

Monday, March 28, 2011
by Matt Porter

Tatiana Coleman was, quite simply, the best player in the area this season.

The West Boca Raton senior tallied 27 goals and 16 assists, displaying moves unlike anyone else on the field.

She was smart enough to play anywhere, joining West Boca Raton's defense to settle down the game and moving up front when the Bulls needed a goal.

She was strong enough to handle anyone defensively. She had the speed to bust through any defense.

She was West Boca's soccer superwoman.

"She's one of the top players in the state, if not the country," West Boca coach Hassan Jaddaoui said. "When she turns on her game, you can tell she has the physical and technical skills to help her team win."

Coleman started as a freshman and won district titles in each of her four years.

After going 22-1 her junior season, the Bulls were 20-1-1 this past season, including a 3-1 victory over Wellington in the District 15-5A final, thanks to Coleman's hat trick. The Bulls fell 1-0 in the regional semifinals to national powerhouse Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas.

"What feeds her - when her teammates play hard, she plays harder," Jaddaoui said.

Jaddaoui expects Coleman to start as a freshman at Auburn, where she signed, playing an attacking midfielder role. Where she ends up is all up to her, he said.

"She's a fantastic player," he said. "She can go as far as her attitude allows her."
