Port st. Lucie high

slate commented on November 26, 2009 at 6:55 p.m.: flag

Can anyone tell us if Port St Lucie high has significant seating on the visitor side of the field or should we bring chairs?

observer commented on November 26, 2009 at 7:44 p.m.: flag

About 2 - 3 times more seating than what was available at the first matchup. There is lot's of seating, but with the crowd you guys bring, I'd bring chairs just in case.

future state champion commented on November 28, 2009 at 1:59 a.m.: flag

jason we dominated them the entire game. we tried to be conservative at the end and it bit us in the butt. you can attest to that. and for some reason you guys at the post have had a problem with us for some time. i will be very surprised if we even make headlines tomoro. last time we did that it was for losing to jc. they're not that good but they do play as hard as they possibly can and for that i respect them much

Fanboy & Chum Chum commented on November 28, 2009 at 2:26 a.m.: flag

Great game! Kudos to both teams! Kelvin Taylor is the real deal. Couple of quick observations/questions. Taylor's Dad (Fred Taylor) was a GC standout and his son is at Glades Day? Why won't Glades Day play Pahokee? and...One of Jupiter Christian's fastest players (#2) did not play Defense at all during that game?

jc commented on November 28, 2009 at 9:08 a.m.: flag

Slate, without kelvin taylor they are nothing he scored every touch down for them i think

Slate commented on November 28, 2009 at 9:43 a.m.: flag

He did score all except one and he is an awesome talent, but Kelvin will tell you that he can not make the blocks and run the ball at the same time. He can not complete the throw that helps keep the Def. guessing. I would say, if I used your logic, that JCS would be nothing without Rothman, who was by far your best player the two games I watched. But Anyone with any football knowledge knows it is always a team game. Ask Barry Sanders, best back of all time, with no help they went nowhere. Oh yeah, Kelvin was not credited with one tackle last night either. Like I said, Kelvin is by far our best talent, but all our Boys left in all on the field last night.

BIG JCS FAN commented on November 28, 2009 at 9:57 a.m.: flag

maybe you should scroll back up and look at the 2nd half stats, your boys are

As a parent of a GDS football player #30, I felt privileged to have witnessed perhaps one of the best high school football games ever!. My hat goes off to the great program that JC has and say that when GDS was up 31-9 at half time, I had no doubt that they would come back with fire in the 2nd half and said so to anybody that would listen within ear shot of me. I commend our boys at GDS and our coaching staff for preparing for this game the way they did. David (GDS) finally slayed Goliath (JC). I personally thanked two members of JC team that played especially hard for their team. I found these two young men respectful and true representitives of their fine school. Congratulations Mr. Will Powers and Mr. Marshyl Rothman, your parents did an outstanding job. For now, it is all about GDS Gators!!.... Congratulations and bring the state championship home.

HSFBALLFAN12 commented on November 28, 2009 at 2:28 p.m.: flag

Best high school playoff game I've seen in a long time. I will tell you that the best team that night won, not the best team though. I have seen a lot of high school football in my time and Jupiter Christian is a great high school team. That QB Rothman is something special. I went to a JC game a few years and they had a very good QB then too. Well coached team. They beat Glades Day 9 out of 10 times. Taylor is a very good back. Good luck gators.

Slate commented on November 28, 2009 at 3:41 p.m.: flag

JCS, to say Bostic is going to be better than Rothman is a huge statement. That kid is one of the best players I have seen in a long time, at least the two games against GDS. For JCS's sake you would will be blessed if he is just as good. Rothman has a huge heart and a can't believe that D-1 schools are not beating his door down. The GDS fans have a lot of respect for JCS's team and program.

HSFBALLFAN12 to say JCS would win 9 out of 10 times gives the Gators no respect; we played twice, both close, good games. That is 1 out 2. Thay had a great run, but it is done for this year. Great progam and coaching and we will look forward to playing them next year in the "Swamp"

HSFBALLFAN12 commented on November 28, 2009 at 4:35 p.m.: flag

Yes 9 out of 10 may be pushing it. Just saying from what I saw JCS was a much better team. You take Taylor off that team and GD would not compete with a team of JCS's caliber. And is there any JCS fans that can tell me where or whether that QB or RB from your team a few years ago are playing? I think the RB's name was Epps. Both good players.

gatorbabyyy3 commented on November 28, 2009 at 4:49 p.m.: flag

this conversation over who is better should stop they proved it last night. Glades day is the better football team. Kelvin Taylor is an amazing back but he couldnt do it without his team. And for everyone who wants Jason Liesur to back Glades Day dont get your hopes up.. i am related to one of the players he interviewed and i was told by all the others that he bashed belle glade and our school its all good keep proving him wrong boys! By the way hsfballfan12 9 out of 10 times?.. i think you need to get your facts straight becuase jupiter christian used to not even be able to field a team. Jupiter Christian just be ready we will come back even stronger next year.. but for now lets finish this year out Gators! STATE BOUND BABYY!!

HSFBALLFAN12 commented on November 28, 2009 at 5:03 p.m.: flag

The facts are Jupiter Christian has beat you 2 out of 3 time since they have fielded a team and almost pulled or did pull a comeback that I've never seen in high school football just came 3 yards away. I am a fan of neither team I just know that without Taylor that game is not close and everybody should know that, not trying to down anybody just stating facts. Great win Taylor and GD you have a bright future kid.

Slate commented on November 28, 2009 at 5:34 p.m.: flag

Same thing can be said from the other side......without Rothman they would have never come back. I don't know but really neither do you. Bottom line is great game....game over....GDS 45 JCS 44. Both TEAMS played great. Not just Taylor or Rothman. Total team effort on both parts.

Gatorbabyyy3 - Jason has not given the Glades Day TEAM much love all year either. He too must think it is a one man show. I am just glad that Kelvin realizes how important his teammates are to his great year. He is a special talent but also a good team mate.

Jcs commented on November 28, 2009 at 7:51 p.m.: flag

Hsballfan2, Cedrick epps was an amazing runner and held the school record for touchdowns and yards up to this year. He was not smart and had a bad gpa if he got better grades he would be playing at a major school

Jcs commented on November 28, 2009 at 7:56 p.m.: flag

And rothman scored two Tds and kelvin scored five there'd a big difference

HSFBALLFAN12 commented on November 28, 2009 at 9:59 p.m.: flag

Thanks Jcs, yes he was a good player him and taylor seemed to be a very similar talent. Too bad he couldnt make the grades. I was really wondering about their QB though I think his name was Capp he threw a great ball and had the height but seemed to be a little skinny. Thought he would be a good college player the way he carried himself on the field. Jupiter Christian really impresses me that they can put the talent that they put on the field with such a young football program. And you know what you guys, I am not downing Glades once again I am a fan of neither team, I just think if you take Taylor off the Glades team they are an average football team. You take Rothman off of Jupiter Christian and they are still a good team with the 2 RBs and the WR. Will be a great rivalry game that I will attend for years to come. Congrats Glades once again.

Slate commented on November 29, 2009 at 5:14 a.m.: flag

Scroll up and look at the stats. Rothman -2Rushing TD's+ 3 Throwing TD's=5 TD's=NO DIFFERENCE

Jcs commented on November 29, 2009 at 10:14 a.m.: flag

Hsballfan2, Josh capps went to some little division 1 program. Slate, bostic could throw three touchdowns , rushing tds are alot harder.

Slate commented on November 29, 2009 at 10:43 a.m.: flag

Rushing td's are harder? Dang, for a minute there I thought we were having an intelligent debate. I give up I can't argue with logic like that.

jcs commented on November 29, 2009 at 12:12 p.m.: flag

Fine take rothman and kelvin taylor out of the game. Glades day would not win. Glades would have no running game and they would be pasing every time. Jc Would have the same running game, and an average pasing game. Kelvin Taylor is the whole team

player commented on November 29, 2009 at 1:30 p.m.: flag

So happy Glades Day won this game. Most of the jcs players, fans, and other supporters are by far some of the most arrogant people I know and I can hardly stand them. And I know it's not just me thinking this, I just said it. There are of course some exceptions on the team that are good people but their reputation is brought down because of the rest of them. I played for an inferior team to both jcs and glades day but would love to have had a chance to play jcs just because I know I'm better than them personally and would've loved to hit some of them in the mouth and shut them up myself but if it took glades day to do it, so be it. I'm just glad that everyone, including myself doesn't have to listen to jcs people yapping about how great they are anymore.

player commented on November 29, 2009 at 7:23 p.m.: flag

jcs, i don't have to say what school I play for. I'm not saying that we're a better team and no one at my school would say that either. My school is beside the point anyway. I said nothing about my school I am just making a very accurate observation of people with jcs ties. I live in the area and know plenty of them. You would be hard pressed to find many people outside of the jcs community that would disagree with me.

future state champion commented on November 29, 2009 at 9:59 p.m.: flag

jcs we also have rashard burney, who some think runs the ball harder than taylor but just dosent have the breakaway speed and cuts taylor has. but look at our throwing
game we have soph. tanner reddish who was one of the top QBs at the underclasman combine #3 6-3 jun. Dovante Allen who is going to be a 4star college prospect and his cousin tay brown #1 who is also a great talent. we also have a great line who opened holes for taylor. also in the first half our defense dominated jcs. we hit rothman so many times he was getting mad, you could tell by his body language. so it takes a team to win. and we did WIN by the way there is no grey area no hypotheticalls it is black and white somebody lost and we won will continue to win and jcs run is completely over. we WON

oh really commented on November 29, 2009 at 10:03 p.m.: flag

oh and look who you lose this year, rothman, powers, and 16 others. this may be jcs end. we lose 4 starters on offense and 4 on defense. not much of a dent there and their backs will be better next year

fbxpert commented on November 30, 2009 at 8:27 a.m.: flag

oh really, let's deal with facts. Glades dominated the first half and JCS dominated the second half. On your winning touchdown you had 6 players on the line of scrimmage, both your recievers were on the sideline. Fact is te TD should not have counted. Had the refs done there job you lose. As far as who we lose, we had 9 seniors, NOT 17. We only started 5 seniors on offense and 5 seniors on defense. We are losing some great players but our run IS NOT over.
Also, either Burney or Taylor will be gone next year, Burney wants more carries and Taylor won't give up his. Great win for you guys last Friday night, see you in September.

fbxpert commented on November 30, 2009 at 8:47 a.m.: flag

one more thing, had Glades lost that game, Walker would have been fired and your program would have crumbled. That's a fact

future state champion commented on November 30, 2009 at 9:10 a.m.: flag

you can have 6 on the line and 10 on the field. you just cant have more than 7 on the line learn the rules.

fbxpert commented on November 30, 2009 at 9:27 a.m.: flag

ZYou need to learn the rules, you can hadve 9 or 10 on the field but you HAVE to have 7 on the line

Slate commented on November 30, 2009 at 9:29 a.m.: flag

Walker would not have been fired. This was thought to be a rebuilding year for GDS. With a new sophmore QB, Top two backs being a freshman and sophmore and top 2 WR being a Sophmore and JR, and a ton of new starters of both lines. GDS has been winning since the 80's and when JCS can say that then you can talk about a run. Great start to your program, but if Coach Powers gets a better offer from a larger school then you should worry about a program that could crumble. He has done a great job in a short period of time building a program, but don't think there aren't bigger schools that think he would be a good fit at their school.

Gator always commented on November 30, 2009 at 9:35 a.m.: flag

You JCS fans are forgetting the years before you started your little run, you couldn't come closer than 50 points to any GDS team..By the way I was standing in line with the goal line when Taylor scored the winning t.d. and the ref standing on the end zone at the pilon had to move in order not to be hit...in other words there was no doubt there was a touchdown....There is no question you have a great little team and that was a heck of a comeback, but the best team won!

future state champion commented on November 30, 2009 at 9:38 a.m.: flag

and neither is leaving because burney will play fullback next year. also again there are no if's, and's, or but's about who won the game and who will advance to the next level and who was the best team friday night.

Jason Lieser commented on November 30, 2009 at 10:13 a.m.: flag

gatorbabyy3, It's ridiculous for anyone to say I have bashed Belle Glade or Glades Day School. There is not a shred of truth to that.

As far as Glades Day "not getting any love"... We cover 45 high school football teams. Glades Day has gotten more coverage in our paper than at least 30 of them. You get love when you win big games. Period. Nobody at the paper "has a problem" with Glades Day or any other school.

"The only time you put us on the front page was when we lost to Jupiter Christian" ... Come on. That game was going out front either way. If you had won, it would've been the same. By the way, that was the only big game Glades Day played against an area team all season. We're not going to put your game on the front page when you beat Berean Christian by 50.

Slate commented on November 30, 2009 at 11:20 a.m.: flag

Jason, my point to the no love was for the TEAM. Tanner Reddish threw 12 TD without an INT this regular season. Our defense was much improved. Rashard Burney avg 7.4 yds per carry. There were many points that could have been included in your coverage. However, I understand that your job is to give the store that the majority want to hear about and that is, in reality, Kelvin. He is a great talent, but the other Gators have worked hard this year also. As a biased fan I would like to see more on the other kids who have helped Kelvin this year. Last years team had talent but could not put it all together. This year they are a TEAM. But i would also like to hit the lottery this week! The chances of that(winning the Lottery) are worse than you fielding a kick off.LOL

Nothing personal on my end. When I lived on the west coast I missed the Sports coverage, especially high school, that the Post has always offered.

There were a lot of interesting points in that game, as there always will be when someone wins a playoff game 45-44 in overtime. Unfortunately, we have limited time and limited space for game stories. We have to highlight the main parts of the game and file the story.

Taylor's play certainly warranted the amount of print space he got. Nobody could watch that game and say there was a better player on the field.

fan commented on November 30, 2009 at 3:20 p.m.: flag

fbxpert
Even if they didnt make the 2 point conversion coach walker would still be there because of the young team he has there and GDS has been one of south florida elite programs since the 80's not one game is gonna bring down a team with such tradition.

GDS ALUM commented on November 30, 2009 at 3:33 p.m.: flag

I've got bad news for you fbxpert....WALKER ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE!!!!!

Jason Lieser commented on November 30, 2009 at 4:38 p.m.: flag

Even if he hadn't converted the 2-pointer, it was still the right call. No way you can argue against him giving the ball to Taylor and trying to end the game. Absolutely the right decision, regardless of the result.

fbxpert commented on November 30, 2009 at 4:55 p.m.: flag

Of course Walker isn't going anywhere, they won the game had they lost that lead and not won, he would have been run out of town.

Giving the ball to Taylor was definitley the right call.

I still don't think Taylor was the whole story. Taylor was a non factor in the second half. He averaged about 3 yard per carry on his last 25 attempts. The Glades QB made some great throws and the receivers made even better catches and that's why they won the football game.

Jason Lieser commented on November 30, 2009 at 5:12 p.m.: flag

Yes, the air attack came through. It was erratic, but when they connected, it was for big gains. Still, Taylor had the greater impact on the game.

player commented on November 30, 2009 at 8:07 p.m.: flag

fbxpert...please just stop talking. Your points are plain stupid and you are clearly not an "expert." Glades Day won the game and no matter how many rules you can recite to everyone. I'm sure that JCS had plenty of calls go their way too. One play does NOT make a game.
And don't even pretend like JCS will be back next year! They lose Rothman and Powers...basically the two responsible for all their scoring. Bostic isn't nearly the QB Rothman is and i don't know who will be their next running back but i guarantee they won't be as good as Powers. Glades Day is taking over 1B high school football whether you like it or not, JCS is done!

Was quite an exciting game. Hats off to all players and coaches, and also fans who left all on the field. Main note is that the game could have went either way, REFFS SUCKED. Never seen so many missed calls in such an important game in a long time. Calls that could have helped and hurt both teams. Someone had to win that night. Valiant effort by JC, but this one went the other way. Both teams should be proud of at least how they survived the lousy reffs. Guess every dog has his day regrdless.
