I agree but it should be the whole county. We routinely produce some excellent bowlers locally.

The main reason we stopped our subscription to the Post is that North Palm Beach County does not get the same attention as do the south and central. We have a just as good as student/athletes as any part of the county or for that matter - the state. So why don't we have more coverage??? The Sun Sentinel does more for the northern area than anyone. Why is that Mr. Burke??
The other point is why BOWLING does not impact your paper like other sports. Bowling is part of the FHSA and should be given more notice since it is in almost every high school in Palm Beach County. A lot of colleges offer scholarshps for bowling that help offset the cost of college. Some of these athletes might even go professional. Bowling is a growing sport due in part to the fact that you can play year round, you don't have to buy a ball or shoes to play, bowling balls are free to use , shoes can be rented and the cost of a game is minimal.
So, Mr. Burke how about putting Bowling where is belongs not hidden in a far corner of your newspaper or not at all. Thanks

Actually quite a few schools give scholarships for GIRLS to bowl. Most are in the midwest and northeast but they are out there. I do not know of ANY that give boys scholarships to play. If I am wrong, and I hope I am, I'd like to know. I had one boy from my 2007 team go up to FSU and joined the bowling team but he had to fundraise and pay out of his pocket for the expenses.

Boys, get together some how, you'll both benefit from playin each other. Hill, college bowling is not a scholarship program in College. It is not an NCAA Sponsored Sport! Anytime you can bowl with better competition, it' beneficial. Looking forward to seeing both of you bowl at state this year. I know of one of you, Shaefer is a great bowler, a great kid on and off the lanes, if you could bowl together it'll be great.

All of you argued.... about the comments that Shaefer Shepard was a great bowler from Illinois.
Well if runner up in the 2010 FHSAA Individual State Finals isn't enough, then your all crazy. He's good, he's really good... 1st time in Florida, runner up, you will see him again next year. Great job Shaefer, you have nothing to prove to anyone. Your attitude, concentration, respect and effort you show to bowling and baseball is exceptional. I understand your also a straight A student, congradulations. You are an inspiration to all of us student-athletes that exceed on and off the field and don't get the credit we deserve.

    State Finals
I have been coaching for 17 years including 7 in bowling and the whole time all I have ever heard is that the central part of the state has the best high school bowlers. Well, let's see: Boy's Individual State Champion Nick Speanburg- JUPITER, Boy's Individual State Runner-up Shaefer Shepard-OLYMPIC HEIGHTS, Boy's State Team Champions-PALM BEACH CENTRAL, Girl's State Team Runner-up- MARTIN COUNTY, Girl's Indiividual State Runner-up Natalie Armstrong-PALM BEACH LAKES. I guess the torch has been passed south. South Florida, Palm Beach County in particular, showed we have some outstanding bowlers down here. Now if we could just some coverage in the papers. I don't receive the paper anymore but I don't see anything online about the finals.

Yes Shaefer is a nice/good kid but his FATHER... ha, thats another story in itself... I truly feel for the kid... His father moved him from Illinois to Florida so he could play baseball year round... First school they didn't start him or use him as much as Daddy would have like so he was moved to Olympic... The kid is a good bowler, Dad says he a better baseball player and moving him yet again this time I believe its to Boca HS so he can get more play on the baseball field... Speaking to the kids, Shaefer likes to bowl, is good at it, but because of Daddy, doesn't have much say in anything... Oh, and yes, he is an A and B student, but not one Honors Class or AP and he is already a Junior....... Dad says he doesn't need those classes to be recruited into a good college... probably right about that but time will tell... Just stop moving the kid....

DAD, let the kid be a kid and leave him be... He's good....

I was reading about this kid Shaefer I guess the kid from Jupiter Nick Speanburg quieted his father. Except for the beginning of their match in Orlando, he threw a hissy fit about the conditions. Well Speanburg bowled on the same lanes and kicked butt!!. And just for the record, he was 2nd last year as a 10th grader, won the high school Singles averaging 240 plus, and this year came in first. So I guess he's pretty good in his own rights eh Shaefer who? And South Florida High School Bowler of the Year in 2009..and bowler of the year in this year also

No he didn't. He was a little angry that they didn't do practice because it said on the schedule thast they should have had it. Nick's mom and shaeffer's dad both agreed on that they should have practice. He wasn't complaining about the conditions at all, ask all the people there, get your facts straight bro!! They both deserved to both almost averaging 250 something in match plays!!! so don't say stuff!! THey will both be back next year. and eh you??????

Shaefer bowled at the same high school as my son in Vernon Hills Illinois. He is a very good bowler, but not as good as his father thinks. he left here because his dad does not get his way..As far as baseball his dad was upset that he did not make varsity team his freshman year.. Not a bad pitcher or infielder but could not hit..
By the way the previous post by bill Spriger, proof in pudding and Bowler are probably written by his father..He has been known to do this

No threads this year. Does anyone have an opinion on the new county championship? It sounds like a great idea to get all the bowlers in the county together. And how Park Vista and Jupiter, PV girls are going to go undefeated and Jupiter seems to be mowing people over. We should have another good showing at state again.

Well say it ain't so.... Shaefer does it again with the support of the Boca Bobcats Bowling team. They beat up on Jupiter and Palm Beach Central twice to win the Palm Beach Conference Championships today. You can say what you like, the kid's a winner, a great bowler, all the kids like and respect him, and why not, he's good. I'm from PV, and we got beat by PBC, but what you want to say, Boca and Shaefer won, next is Districts, I hope the kid repeats, and why not, it would be great to have a repeat of last years State Finals. Remember, Shaefer spends all year playing baseball, most of these other kids spend all year bowling. It is what it is, give credit where it's due! Don't be jelious, were not!!

So, I see Shaefer's dad has made his way to this forum to boast his sons rep once again..To see more of this, you should google Neil Shepard baseball and look at the stuff he posted in Illinois about his son's GREATNESS!!!! The kid is good, but not what his dad makes it out to be. Sure he was runner-up at States, but somehow his dad never takes him to the real tournaments with the real bowlers.

Note: last checked, he had the posts removed

Congratulations to Boca High Boys and Girls, Spanish River Boys and Park Vista Girls for qualifying for the state championships at regionals Tuesday. And also to the individual bowlers who are also making the trip.

The Boys division second spot came down to a fifth game between Spanish River, the 4th qualifier and Park Vista, the top seed. The last Baker game was incredible. I believe Park Vista bowled a 232 but was bested by Spanish River, which rolled a 277!

Park Vista had nothing to be ashamed about and Spanish River's kids will remember this game for the rest of their lives!

Good luck at states for each of you!

Well another strong showing by south florida,Palm Beach County especially. We finished third and Boca 4th, throw Martin County in at 1st and south florida took 3 of 4 final slots. Kyle, Shaefer and Matt all qualified as individuals with Kaitlyn and Lauren on the girls side with Park Vista representing teams. Kaitlyn finished 6th and Lauren threw a perfect game. Again if you throw Martin County in from the Treasure coast, south florida dominated this tournament again. C'mon Post, throw us some love. Football may be "king" but South Florida's dominace in Bowling is outhshining even the big three. I, for one, am proud to coach and be around such fantastic athletes in our bowling programs. They are highly competitive, good students, and good people. And let's not forget Linda, Bill, Rich, Mike, and Nat for the great job they did helping to get their teams to Orlando.

bob m - if I was shaefer or his father; i wouldn't tell you a thing, your an extremeist with a grudge and you sound insecure and jelous, possibly enough to do this kid harm. shaefer has been a tremendous athlete accomplishing his goals both in the classroom and on the field and in the bowling alley. i do know where he's going to play baseball and it's a great college with a great baseball record. it's a shame they don't have a bowling team. shaefer was also given a scholorship opportunity to bowl for UCF, he turned that offer down. don't knock this kid, he a great friend to all on and off the field.

Neil Shepard stretches the truth A LOT!!!!!. Got kicked out everywhere he was in Illinois. He has lied about his playing career and sons career. Hey Neil you played at Arizona for Jerry Kindall right? LOL By the way you also played for the Dodgers too.... name the scout that signed you! Do not believe anything this guy says. All articles written on his son in Illinois were full of lies. Articles always had quotes from a man that does not exist....Peter Woods. No high schools wanted to put up with this guy, so he had to move as far away as possible. Sorry to blow your cover Neil. Believe me.... when Neil gets vague it is a lie.
